Polskie Kasyna Online recently spoke with Alina Avekse Mathiasen, GameArt's Chief Product Officer, to explore the company's evolving game strategy, innovative mechanics, and the role of AI in shaping the future of game development.
Could you introduce yourself and share how you joined GameArt, along with your background in the gaming industry?
My name is Alina Avekse Mathiasen, and I joined GameArt in December 2023. I bring over a decade of experience in the gaming industry, primarily gained on the game provider side with companies such as Evolution Global, Stakelogic, and IGT. Over the past six years, my focus has been on game production, where I have held roles including Project Manager, Delivery Manager, Product Owner, and now Head of Product and Commercial at GameArt.
How has GameArt evolved over the past year? Have there been significant shifts in its strategic vision or development goals?
In April this year, GameArt redefined its product mission and vision to adapt to the evolving gaming landscape. This involved a thorough review of our development strategies, aligning our goals with emerging industry trends and player preferences.
Over the past six months, we’ve shifted focus in game design, prioritising innovative mechanics and distinctive artistic styles. For example, we are developing modular mechanics that let players customise gameplay dynamically, enhancing engagement and personalisation.
Our updated approach also includes a redesigned user interface to modernise the player experience. This intuitive design ensures seamless navigation and a cohesive flow, further enriching gameplay.
We’re especially excited about the upcoming launch of a crypto mining game, featuring unique elements like variable hash power packs and real-time mining stats. By blending gaming with cryptocurrency mechanics, we aim to deliver a fresh and rewarding experience that sets a new standard in the genre.
Thanks to these shifts in the way we work, we can better stay ahead of industry trends and deliver even more compelling experiences that keep players engaged and excited.
How is GameArt adapting to the changes to stay competitive?
The landscape of the gaming industry is ever-changing, and while there may not be a formula for guaranteed success, our driving force is our talented and creative team. As a smaller company we are constantly thinking of how to create niche products to stand out among industry giants. We thrive on being creative so that we can come up with unique content and features that players love. This is how we can compete in an increasingly challenging market.
How does GameArt incorporate technologies like VR and AI into game development, and what future impact do you foresee for these technologies in gaming?
While Virtual Reality (VR) is gaining momentum in gaming, GameArt is currently focused on enhancing our core offerings and developing new products set to launch soon. Meanwhile, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become integral to our development process, streamlining workflows and enabling efficient content creation. With tools like rapid bug detection and prevention, AI is already a valuable asset. Looking ahead, I see AI playing a larger role in generating dynamic, player-tailored content, further enriching the gaming experience.
Can you share insights about one of GameArt’s recent releases and what makes it stand out for players?
One standout title in our recent lineup is the "Lucky Loser" game, which introduces an innovative mechanic that redefines player engagement. Unlike traditional gameplay, this game rewards players for filling a progress bar with losing spins, flipping the narrative of winning on its head. This unexpected twist not only keeps players on their toes but also adds an intriguing layer of strategy to the experience. Additionally, we are excited about our upcoming release, "Infinite Cauldron," which merges crypto mining with casino gaming. Players will have the unique opportunity to mine various cryptocurrencies, select from different hash power packages, and engage with live chats and statistics—an innovative fusion that promises to captivate players and redefine gaming paradigms in the casino world.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to start a career in the gaming industry?
My unequivocal advice is to dive in wholeheartedly! Many of us began with little to no relevant experience, but the key ingredients for success lie in passion and resilience. The gaming industry thrives on a fast-paced, ever-evolving landscape, so embracing that mentality is vital. Be bold in your ideas and don't shy away from proposing innovative—or initially unconventional—concepts. Often, the most groundbreaking products emerge from the courage to explore the uncharted. Cultivating a curious mindset and an eagerness to learn will certainly pave the way for growth and opportunity in this field.
How does GameArt approach the design and creation of new online games?
Standing out from the crowd is imperative in today’s gaming market. At GameArt, we prioritise competitor research to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. This involves evaluating the player experience from a holistic viewpoint, considering everything from game mechanics to art direction. Each game design starts with a commitment to enhancing user experience, simplifying interactions, and ensuring that our creations not only entertain but also resonate deeply with our audience. Understanding player feedback and preferences allows us to sculpt engaging and memorable products.
Which of GameArt’s games do you consider the most successful, and what factors contributed to its popularity?
Among our recent triumphs, "Jazz Jam Jackpots," "Jungle Rave," and "Lucky Loser" stand out as particularly successful titles. Each of these games boasts unique mechanics that redefine player engagement, combined with visually striking art that enhances the immersive experience. For instance, "Jazz Jam Jackpots" utilizes rhythm-based gameplay elements, captivating players with its vibrant soundtracks and visuals that evoke the lively spirit of a cabaret. "Jungle Rave" transports players to a vibrant jungle party, integrating interactive features that create a dynamic and fast-paced atmosphere. Finally, "Lucky Loser" flips traditional gaming concepts, emphasizing the reward potential of losing spins, which challenges and intrigues players. The common thread among these games is their captivating gameplay, artistic consistency, and fast-paced mechanics that keep players returning for more.
How does GameArt gather inspiration from industry trends or competitors when developing new games?
At GameArt, we prioritise a player-centric approach in shaping our development roadmap. My experience as a player offers valuable insights into evaluating game mechanics, aesthetics, and overall enjoyment. By analysing industry trends, competitor offerings, and conducting market research, we identify emerging themes and preferences across player segments. This holistic approach helps us stay relevant in a dynamic market while pushing creative boundaries and setting new standards in game design.
What do you see as the biggest challenges currently facing the gaming and gambling industries?
The gaming and gambling industries face challenges such as evolving global regulations and intense competition. Adapting to diverse legal requirements demands agility and a deep understanding of jurisdictions. Meanwhile, market saturation drives us to innovate and strive for excellence. Rather than viewing these challenges as obstacles, we see them as opportunities to be creative and improve.
